Journey to Aukstaitija National Park

6 days / 5 nights

Day 1. Arrival to Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. Transfer to the hotel. Check inn. Meeting with representative of tour operator. Dinner at the restaurant. Overnight in Vilnius.

Day 2. Breakfast at the hotel. A trip to the Aukstaitija National Park located in the north east of Vilnius, the region of lakes, forests and rich wildlife. On the way visiting  Joneikiškės village - where was established the "Europe park" exposition: open -air sculpture park in the forest, exhibition of sculptures created by artist from Japan, the USA, Ireland, Great Britain, Greece, ect. Further we will go  to Moletai where we will visit The Molėtai Astronomical Observatory which was built in 1969.The Molėtai Astronomical Observatory is the only one place in Lithuania including such a great astronomical technologies. Visiting the Observatory always delights its guests as they have a perfect chance to know better, what is above our planet. Of course, Molėtai Astronomical Observatory does not propagate myths about aliens, but people visited it understand how little they are, and how little is the importance of their biggest problems. Further our way will turn to Utena. It is one of the oldest cities in Lithuania, is related to the Narkunai castle-mound that is often mentioned in the chronicles of swordsmen. A letter of king Mindaugas in 1261, first mentioned a wooden castle by the Utenele river. According to the story, that castle was built by the Duke Utenis. Utena residents named the city's central square and a regional newspaper after this duke. After short excursion tranfer to "Alaušo Slėnis" - a recreation centre situated on the picturesque western coast of Alaušas Lake. Dinner at the restaurant. Overnight in "Alauso slenis"

Day 3. After the breakfast we will continue our trip. Next our stop - Tauragnai.There we will see Tauragnas - the deepest lake in Lithuania reaching 60.5 metres of depth. Next we will visit Stripeikiai and Beekeeping museum. Ancient beekeeping museum in Stripeikiai is the only such museum in Lithuania. It was established in 1984 by Bronius Kazlas and his wife. Now the exposition occupies 6 buildings, part of it is in open air. There are plenty of wooden sculptures in the museum; a few of them are also the hives. In the museum one can learn about beekeeping development from ancient times until today. Special hives with glass walls shows, how bees lives and gathers honey. Further we will see Ginuciai water mill - supposedly hounted by the devil, and nearly 200 years old, the water mill is the only one in the region that has preserved all its original working apparatus. Later we will climb to Ladakalnis - it is Aukstaitians Venice, the one of the most beautiful places in Lithuania. In sunny day you could see 6 lakes (Linkmenas, Asekas, Alksnaitis, Alksnas, Ukojas, Pakasas). Expected that on this hill where sacrifice victims to life goddess Lada - the great mother of all the world. In the later afternoon we will come to Paluse - the recreation centre of Aukstaitija National Park. Dinner at recommended cafe or restaurant. Overnight at the hotel (or at homestead) in Paluse.


Day 4. Breakfast at the hotel (or at homestead). The most famous architectural sight in Palūšė is the church of St. Joseph together with belfry. This wooden ensemble was built in XVIII century and now it is the oldest wooden church in Lithuania. There are some valuable examples of folk art - paintings, wood carvings, brass bells with baroque ornaments. In the church the father of composer Mikas Petrauskas and singer Kipras Petrauskas worked as an organist. Later you will have an Educational program: "Baking the šakotis". During it you will see how this famous Lithuanian dessert is made and you will taste it. After excursions free time (or walking tour around surroundings). Dinner. Overnight in Paluše.

Day 5. After breakfast we will continue our trip. Next our stop Kaltanėnai. There we will have a 1 day touring trip by canoes during the most beautiful lakes or rivers of Aukstaitija National Park. After it we will start our journey back to Vilnius during the Labanoras regional park - we will have a possibility to see the one of the oldest and largest woods Labanoras. Dinner at the restaurant in Vilnius. Overnight in Vilnius.

Day 6. After breakfast a city tour of Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania for more than 600 years. The tour includes: St. Peter and Paul's Church, Gediminas castle, Cathedral Square, St. Ann and Bernardine's Church, the Gates of Dawn with the holy image of the Virgin Mary, Russian Orthodox Church of the Holy Spirit, Town Hall Square and Vilnius University (founded in 1579) with St. John's Church. Later free time. Dinner at the recommended restaurant. Overnight in Vilnius.

Day 7. Breakfast at the hotel. Departure transfer to the airport or railway station.
